Grand Teton Camping For Free

Today we focus on Grand Teton camping, for free. For many folks traveling to Wyoming during the summer months to visit the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks, finding lodging and camping that isn’t already occupied or very expensive can be an issue. Here I will cover a great free area of forest service land that is camped on all the time by tent campers, RV’s, vaners, and the like. This land is immediately adjacent to the park directly across the main road (US 89). This is completely free camping just outside Grand Teton National Park. The road you are looking for is FS 30310. The coordinates for your GPS app is:Β 43.763874, -110.556709. Click here for directions on Google Maps.

Once turning off the main highway you’ll continue up the dirt road until you start to veer around left and back towards the Tetons. You’ll pass a handful of camping spots on the lower level before you veer left. Most all spots have fire rock rings. There are quite a bit of spots once you get to the top of the hill. Most any size camping rigs will not have a problem getting into these spots and all of these spots have the VIEW that is killer. It does tend to get crowded here in the summertime, just make a friend! It’s better than $30 for dry camping inside the park.

If you can’t find a spot with a view, you can still continue up the road for more camping. There are another handful of spots on the left side with a view before you start going back into the woods and losing the view. None of the sites here have any sort of table so we recommend getting yourself one of these sweet Coleman pop up tables for cheap! The table we use is in the picture below.

There are many great campsites available in this area. We camped back there for a few nights and didn’t see too many other people. We weren’t able to get one of the amazing spots with a view so we were happy to find a nice secluded spots back in the woods.

The cell service up there can be spotty. We had both AT&T and Verizon and neither of them we working for much of anything. I wouldn’t plan on making calls or browsing the web in these sites. I have heard that with a cell booster some folks have had some luck with service up there. No problem with cell service once you get back out to the highway.

Overall, if you are visiting this part of the country, this is a must visit camp spot with epic views of the Grand Teton mountain range that is only about 5-10 miles from the park entrance. This is a perfect spot for Grand Teton camping. Check this post’s featured image for a view of what some of those upper campsites will gift you with. That picture was taken on the FS road heading back toward the highway. Get out there and enjoy a trip!
